What is Greenhouse Scholars?
Greenhouse Scholars is a 501c3 organization providing financial and personal support to high achieving, but under resourced college students. We believe that education is the single most powerful way to break the cycle of poverty and solve some of the nations' most serious problems. Venus de Miles is organized by, and full benefits, Greenhouse Scholars.
Is fundraising required?
There is no mandatory fundraising requirement, however the event is Greenhouse Scholars' biggest fundraiser so we encourage you to take some time to learn about the remarkable Scholars and rally the people in your life to support this very worth cause.
What is provided with registration?
We will take care of all your food and hydration needs during the event, but it's always a good idea to bring light snacks and water with you in case you need a boost in between aid stations. At the festival there will be complimentary lunch, cocktails, spa services, and a snazzy new t-shirt.
Can my child participate?
Participants under 18 years of age must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian and be able to complete the course in its entirety without requiring additional support. On the ride courses, attached tagalong and trailer bikes are permissible however all participants must be registered. For the safety of you, your child, and other participants, burleys and similar carriers are not permitted.
What is a bib number?
Each participant will be assigned a unique number. In the event of medical emergency, this will be our only means of identifying you to note any allergies or other medical issues you have and to contact your emergency contact person. All participants must have their assigned bib number prominently displayed on their person or their bike on event day. It is strictly prohibited to give your assigned bib number to another participant.
Where should I pick up my bib number and information packet?
When you register, you will be asked your preferred location for packet pick up. We will confirm where your packet will be waiting for you approximately 1 week before the event. Packets not picked up in advance will be available the morning of the ride. Please plan to arrive a minimum of 30 minutes before your start time to allow enough time for packet collection.
What do I need to bring with me to Venus de Miles?
You will need sneakers or bike shoes, a form of identification, cash or credit cards for the festival, and a positive, upbeat attitude. If you are riding, you will also need a working bike, a helmet - no exceptions - and water bottles. It is recommend that you bring clothing layers, cycling gloves to prevent blistering, and spare tubes for your tires.
Please note, headphones are not permitted at any time on the ride courses.
Will there be some place to leave my bag or other items?
Yes, there will be a gear check for your convenience. Be sure to affix the gear check tear tab provided on your participant bib to your bag.
Can I switch course distances?
You are welcome to change the course you would like to complete until the very last minute. If you know in advance of event day that you will be changing your course distance, please email us so we can update your registration in the system. If you do not decide until the morning of the event you may simply show up in preparation for the preferred course start time (recommended arrival is 30 - 45 minutes prior to the published start time).
Can I start the ride earlier than the published time?
It is very important to arrive at the designated start time for each course so we can ensure that aid stations will be open and all other on course support is available for you.
What if it rains?
Venus de Miles is a rain or shine event so we'll get wet together! In the event of severe weather, we will work with local medical and safety experts to make a call that is in your best interest. Your safety will always be our top priority.
I signed up but can’t participate – what are my options?
Venus de Miles is a non-refundable event. You can however transfer your registration to a friend by logging in to your Race Roster account and click the "Transfer Request" button on the left side menu. Select your name from the first drop down menu and then input your friends email address in the second box that pops up. Your friend will receive an email providing them with a link to complete their registration. The price you paid for your original registration will be credited to your friend's new registration. Your friend will not be able to select a new course option, but they can contact us to change that for them if needed. Please email us with any other questions.
